Meet The YT Guru n’ Naturalista DPrincess28…

Hi Ladies n’ Gents,

I am very excited introduce to you DPrincess28.  She is a new mommie n’ a natural hair enthusiast!  This interview is perfect for all you inspiring naturalistas out there! Lets learn how she made her transition! Check out the deets below…

1. Congrats on becoming a Mommie! Have you noticed any changes in your hair, skin, n’ nails while being pregnant? If so do you think the prenatal vitamins had anything to do with it?

Thanks and yes, I noticed a HUGE change in my hair and nails. Not to sound vain, but that was the best part about being pregnant! My hair grew longer and thicker, and my nails became strong like never before. I definitely think the prenatal vitamins had something to do with it, but I’m sure the change in hormones also played a big role. I’m still taking prenatal vitamins because I’m nursing, but I’ve heard about the benefits vitamins can have, and have noticed that my nails are still long and strong, and my hair has yet to start shedding (*fingers crossed*).

2. What are your favorite hair care products for curly and/or straight hair?

For curly styles, I like Hawaiian Silky 14-in-1 Miracle worker. It’s a great, inexpensive leave in that helps keep my curls in check. I recently sampled Miss Jessie’s Curly Pudding, and it left me begging for more! It’s a lot pricier than what I’m used to spending, but I may just have to dig a little deeper into my pockets and possibly add it to my regimen.

As for straight styles, I’m actually searching for a good leave in and heat protectant. Right now I’m using One ‘N Only Ceramic Silk Thermal Protection Ironing Creme and Megasilk Olive Heat Protection Spray. They get the job done, but for some reason I seem to be losing that lovin’ feeling. As far as keeping my straight locks moisturized, I’d have to say that the oil moisturizing hair lotion by Bronner Bros. is my top pick because it’s a light formula that keeps my hair hydrated without weighing it down or causing it to feel greasy.

3. What made you decide to go natural n’ to share your story on YouTube?

I was basically forced into going natural after a really bad breakup which led to me dying and frying my hair. I wanted a new attitude so to speak, but seeing that I was relaxed at the time, the double process proved detrimental to my hair. It broke off so badly that it was paper thin. I therefore saw going natural as the only way to nurse my hair back to health. As far as me choosing to share my natural journey on YouTube, well, there wasn’t much thought put into it. I had a new Macbook with a built-in camera, and decided to test it out. Since hair is one of my favorite topics, it seemed like the most natural thing for me to vlog about.

4. What is your secret in maintaining sexy, healthy, n’ strong hair?

Less is best. That’s the motto I live by. I believe that I’ve been able to retain length and maintain the health of my hair simply because I don’t do a lot of stuff to it. Although I like to heat style my hair from time to time, I achieve extreme styles and colors with the help of wigs and or hair pieces. Yet for the most part, you’ll see my hair in its natural state and or in a braid or bun out.

5. For all the aspiring natural girls out there, what would be your best advice to them?

My biggest advice would be to try not to stress about it. I know that’s easier said than done, but going natural is indeed a journey–not just from a physical standpoint, but also from an emotional one. I therefore think that instead of stressing about what one’s hair is going to look like, ladies should try to enjoy the journey more and use the transition phase as a period of exploration and discovery.

Ok Ladies n’ Gents, I hope you all read intently n’ became inspired to leave the “Creamy Crack” alone! Lol. As she stated going natural is a journey n’ wont happen over night, so do your research on different products n’ methods you would like to use when becoming natural! I’m a recent subbie…almost 52 years old, yet fascinated by this journey of seeing my natural hair. I’m almost 3 months along, tapping into this site keeps me encouraged.

Thanks for being so open about the products and techniques, offering styles for the transition. Not all sisters are so real about their hair care.
