Hi Ladies n’ Gents,
Nikkie20six is a super talented YT Guru who stays very busy with with her 3 businesses! Yes! I said 3, she is a seamstress, she designs exotic dance wear, she is a makeup artist, N’ she owns her own company specializing in bath essentials! I am O’ So curious to find out how she balances it all, raises a family, n’ still remains so fabulous! Take a peek below at the interview….
1. How did you get into makeup? When did you start?
I was never into makeup I had an older sister (a couple of months older lol) who was in love with makeup and was wearing it at the age of 13 and she made my face up. I thought I looked beautiful in it she made me look like Vanessa Williams. At about 16 I had permission from my parents to wear makeup thats what fueled my obsession. I would go down the makeup aisle in the drug stores for hours picking up things that I could afford. I was also lucky to have lived in NYC because there was always a Ricky’s. I also picked up books from Kevyn Aucoin and tried to learn whatever I could.
2. What are your favorite makeup brands?
I really dont have a favorite. I like a lot of different brands for different reasons, there is no one brand that has everything that works for me. I like the department store brands because they are the underdogs but the products are comparable to the higher end brands. I was never fascinated by the higher end brand of makeup because I am cheap lol. I think that Wet n Wild is giving Mac a run for the money right now and everyone can afford it and purchase much more variety for the same price as a Mac eyeshadow. I also like E.L.F., MAC, Black Opal, & Naked Cosmetics.
Bubble Babez Bath Company was created because I was looking up swag bag ideas for my fiance Tristan’s Birthday party. It was becoming rather expensive to put together a fabulous swag bag that people would enjoy. I decided that I would look into creating my own bath and body products and that would be the items in the bag. People began asking for more soap and lotion and I was like maybe I am on to something here. I started doing my research and one thing led to another, my cousin (a lawyer) helped us to make the business legit and we just went full force into it.
4. Where do you want to take your businesses in the next few years?
I hope that in the next few years that Bubble Babez will be a household name, that we will have a dedicated following for our company.
5. How did you get into creating Exotic Dance Wear?
I started sewing at the age of 11, and I would sew off and on thats one of my talents that has stuck with me all of my life. I always picked up a talent and did that for a little while and my mom would say that I was a Jack of all trades and Master of none. I did a lot of fashion shows and started making swimwear. I was going to create a calendar and 2 exotic dancers came into the casting, saw my work, and asked if I had ever made clothing for dancers, which I hadn’t. Leading them to tell me to swing by their club and that’s how everything started. I started to go out to all the clubs in the Tri-State area with my dance wear.
Its a mess and I need some organization to get it all done lol. I sew when I get orders now not every day like I used too, I have been missing in action on YT but I am coming back lol, I am making products, packing orders and networking at least 12 hrs out of my day lol. We have family game night at least once or twice a week, and I try to have family dinner at least 2xs a week. We usually eat at different times. I am trying to get my work schedule down to 9a-5p or something like that. Usually I end up working in the evenings since I am also babysitting my 7month old nephew during the day. Its difficult and plenty of the time I am exhausted and drained but I muster up the energy to get the job done! 🙂
The advice that I would give to an inspiring makeup artist and/or entrepreneur is that always stay true to your beliefs and morals. In this game its easy to lose sight of what was important to you because people will step all over you to take what they want. Don’t let anyone make you bitter or discourage you. You have to stick to your guns and let your point be known-Make your mark. Always, Always stand out dont be afraid to take a leap out on faith and make your dreams come true! I am still working on making my dreams come true. I believe in myself and I know that God blessed me with talent for a reason and that’s how I feel everyone should look at themselves as individuals and also as artists! Most important, Don’t be lazy! If you want it, go out and get it! If they tell you No or you cant do it let those negative words turn into encouragement and push that much harder!
8. What do you think is the hottest Shop.cmichellestyles.com item for the fall/winter season?
I love the cuffs I think they are AMAZING! You can pair that up with like a chunky cable knit sweater and glam it up!
